A converted Grade 2 listed building, The Pearn House in Plymouth is a development of luxury apartments built for the over 55 market. The development was a refurbishment, with the property being over 125 years old. Originally opened as residential convalescent nursing home, the development was built for the people and served the community for 107 years.
Set in walled grounds, the development comprises 10 two-bedroom apartments, set over two storeys. Each apartment is specified to the highest standard, ensuring the original period features of the property sit sympathetically with the modern inclusions, such as its high gloss kitchen and bathroom, making it one of the most exciting redevelopments in Plymouth.
When it came to specifying the flooring within the development, Derwent Plymouth, commercial flooring contractors, was given a specific brief from the architect; the properties had to feel spacious, exude luxury and look modern whilst also keeping in fitting with the period features. Having worked with CFS for 18 years, Derwent Plymouth knew that it wanted to install CFS products and selected 550m2 of CFS’s Arden Classics Hardwood, part of the CFS Home range, throughout the hallways, living and kitchen areas of the development.
Arden Classic Hardwood Collection is available in 13 rustic designs and five plank styles. With luxury at the forefront of all interior design choices at The Pearn House, Derwent Plymouth specified the hardwood in Rustic Maxi Arctic White, creating an open and clean space within the properties.
Alongside the aesthetic benefits of choosing Arden Classics, hardwood flooring provided the level of luxury required for the high-end development. Designed with a three-layer construction, it is also incredibly durable by nature and will maintain its appearance for many years thanks to a smooth coloured UV oil coating. In terms of installation, a number of the products in the Arden Classics range – including the design selected for this development – work through an engineered plank clicking system which helped the team to lay the floor down quickly and easily.
The property also benefited from complimentary accessories from CFS – end profiles in 15mm – which matched the finish of the floor perfectly. It was the finishing touches like this that elevated the interior design of the apartments.
Darren Wills, director at Derwent Plymouth, said: “Having used CFS for over 18 years, we knew that its products were high quality, the customer would be happy with the finished project and we’d have great support from the sales team there, making our job easier.
“We ordered the flooring from Carpet & Flooring; it was in stock and delivered the next day which allowed us to work quickly and to deadline. We were also able to order accessories and scotia from Carpet & Flooring, meaning we could get all materials required to complete the job from one place.
“CFS’s Arden Classics range fitted the architect’s specification perfectly and provided the levels of luxury required. We’d thoroughly recommend CFS and Arden Classics for any projects that required hardwood flooring.”
